Why is there a big yellow splotch on my green squash?
The yellow splotch is where the squash sits on the ground as it grows. The bumps are essentially an extension of the stem and are found on most kabocha squash. The moisture is soft rot from the stem, but it doesn't penetrate the skin, so the flesh of the squash is unharmed. Kabocha are a variety of squash that you do not eat the skin (given that it is too thick) so none of these are actual issues with the vegetable, these are common occurrences with the squash. If these bumps were found on say, a delicata squash or a zucchini we would not send that item because you do tend to eat the skins of those.
